It is sad sometimes that horrible things can make us laugh. We have all watched those video clip shows that show mostly males، mostly in their teens and early twenties، doing something stupid and dangerous. Most of these clips make us chuckle in one way or another. I saw a clip the other day that made me laugh uncontrollably. When the giggles had clamed down، I thought a bit more deeply about the clip and was a little ashamed at my reaction.
One of the funniest things that I have ever seen involved a shock collar، but I doubt that it is what you think. On America’s Funniest Videos، I saw a clip where some guy with a beard put on a shock collar to demonstrate its effects for his family. The shock collar had six settings and by the third، the guy was shaking around and clearly in pain. He made it though، all the way through level six. I was amazed that he withstood the pain because he was violently shaken out of his seat by the shocks.
Even though the clip was hilarious، it was sad to think that four out of the six levels on the shock collar were able to jolt a grown man. This meant that a dog، an animal a fraction of the size of this man، would be subjected to exponentially more pain. Whenever an idiot subjects himself to pain، it usually makes for a good laugh. It is not at all funny، however، to think that a tiny animal could be tortured in this way.
I understand that people want their dogs to behave well and keep quiet when it is not appropriate to make a lot of noise. I do believe that pet owners are responsible for how their animals act. If they want quiet dogs، they should be quiet people and the dogs will follow. Abusing your dog with a shock collar is not the answer. You may find that using one on your dog will only cause more behavior issues. You may even find that your pet may stop trusting you.
Dogs are complex beings – just like people. There are many ways to get your pet to behave the way that you want them to without putting their comfort and safety at stake. Using shock collars should be illegal. I believe that it is abusive to electrically shock an animal for doing what comes natural to it. Being physically harmed for speaking or expressing oneself would be viewed as torture if it involved a human. It should not be any different when it comes to animals.
